The "Workshop" is a great feature that has been recently included with Left 4 Dead 2, and its about time. Other Valve games like Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod have had this and it has been incredibly fun, and I was sincerely hoping that Left 4 Dead might one day have that same functionality. Then again, I'm not really sure if you could do mods and addons to L4D2 before...I'm sure you could, but this at least brought it to my attention, and its certainly more convenient. Here's some of my favorite/recommended addons that I've gotten! This is just a taste of all the great stuff that's out there. Go look for yourself for much more.
I have yet to explore the maps and addon campaigns, I'll do a separate post for those.
TO INSTALL THEM: Download the file, extract, put the .vpk file in the steam/steamapps/common/l4d2/l4d2/addons folder. It will auto install when you load up the game.
(Mind some of them you can get directly in game, simply by subscribing to them directly from the workshop. Easier but not all of these addons are in there.)
This one is fantastic in that it makes all the blood splatters as well as flesh wounds a lot more detailed and more realistic. If you're not a fan of blood this ain't for you. This one can be found in the Workshop as well.
Gives the bots a bit more intelligence, for example they respond much quicker to special infected and can use melee weapons. My favorite thing about this though is that you can play versus with and against them and they will go through levels without you leading. Which also means that if you're playing a single player campaign and you die they will go on without you, and you can watch them complete the level, but it also includes a feature where you can choose in-game which character to play as. So if you die you can just take control of another one of them and keep going. Very cool addon.
This one makes the special infected look more realistic, and in my opinion a whole lot freakier, especially the witch and the jockey.
- Isaac Clarke (Ellis)
There's a lot of good reskins for Ellis, but this one was my favorite. There's full face modeling, which is fantastic, none of the animations are quirky or awkward, and Ellis' voice works with the face. And it's Isaac Clarke. Come on. If only he had a curb-stomp animation...
- Commander Shepard (Nick)
All the other Nick reskins were meh, but this one is great. I pretty much enjoy it for the same reasons as the last one. Full face modeling, good animations and fitting voice. And basically, no matter what scars you bear, whatever uniform you wear, you can fight like a Krogan, run like a leopard...but you'll never be better than Commander Shepard. So it works for everyone.
- Chell (Rochelle)
Seems fitting considering Chell is in her name. This one's a little different than the last two in that I have beef with the fact that there is zero facial animations (but I suppose she shouldn't be talking anyways). Everything else is awesome though. Love seeing Chell running around hacking away with a fireaxe. Too bad she doesn't have her portal gun.
- Master Chief (Coach)
I've never been a big Halo fan but Master Chief is a total beast, and having him on my team is awesome. Coach is a big character so it fits the fact that Master Chief is friggin huge. No face modeling issues since...well...there's a mask. All the animations work, it's great. Served to complete my epic zombie killing team.
- Aperture Ellis
This one isn't on the website so I can't link it. It's in the Workshop. Basically it's Ellis wearing an Aperture Science test subject outfit with an Aperture Science hat. I like the Portal/Left 4 Dead crossover. It works somehow, especially on Ellis.

I've never been a fan of Rochelle's model...kinda boring. This is much snazzier.

Not a huge change, but I think this coat looks better on her. Also a bit of touch-up on her shoes and pants.
Looks a lot more sleek than Bill's default.

I like the way this looks on Louis, and it's another awesome crossover. I have this skin complemented with a goatee. (It makes me giggle to see Louis using a crowbar in this skin.)
So there you go. Those are the ones I currently use. As I said before there are a lot more out there, this is just a taste, go have a look for yourself!
